Mary Ann Stewart, beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher, and friend, passed away on June 26, 2024, at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in West Monroe, LA. She was born on July 18, 1944, in Vicksburg, MS to Marjorie Trenton Haley and Edwin Sumrall Stewart Sr.
Mary Ann was a woman of many talents and passions. She found joy in hobbies such as sewing, photography, scrapbooking, baking, and gardening. Her love for music was evident through her admiration for artists such as Elvis Presley and Michael Crawford. However, Mary Ann's greatest love was for children, and she dedicated her life to their education and well-being.
After graduating as valedictorian from Utica High School, Mary Ann pursued her higher education journey with determination. She earned her Associate's degree from Hinds Junior College, her Bachelor's degree from Mississippi State College for Women, and her Master's degree from Mississippi State University. She also attended the University of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Mary Ann's passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career of 37 years in the Vicksburg Warren School District, where she focused on educating physically handicapped children. She also taught Sunday School at Woodlawn Baptist Church. Her dedication and compassion touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on the community she loved.
In addition to her professional achievements, Mary Ann cherished her family dearly. She is survived by her loving son, Christopher (Chris) Adams Stewart; her brothers Edwin (Eddie) Sumrall Stewart Jr., Dan Trenton Stewart, Sr., and Paul Haley Stewart; multiple nieces, a nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews, several great-great-nephews, a great-great-niece, and many cherished cousins. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Mary Ann also played an instrumental role in raising her niece, Natalie Marie (Stewart) Noble.
Mary Ann Stewart will be remembered for her caring and compassionate nature, as well as her intelligence and talent. Her favorite place in the world was her home, where she created countless memories with her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to the children she taught and cared for.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg,MS. Monday, July 1, 2024. Funeral services will be held the same day at 2:00 p.m. at Bear Creek Methodist Protestant Church in Utica, MS with Elevate Church’s Pastor Robert Andrews presiding. Interment will be at Bear Creek Cemetery
