MaryAnne Dotson Obituary

MaryAnne Dotson passed away at her home, Monday, March 10, 2025. She was 85. She was born in Richton, MS on August 24, 1939, and raised in Vicksburg.

She was a lady who loved her God, her family, her country and life itself. She was her happiest when she was surrounded by her family, and loving on all the pets, or out in nature enjoying all of God’s creation.

She was a dog groomer in Las Vegas where she met many of the stars, and a tour guide narrating air tours over the Grand Canyon.

She moved on to the beautiful mountains of Big Bear, CA, and in her 40’s decided she wanted to play bass guitar. The desire was strong enough that she taught herself and joined a band, playing the music, she loved.

Life eventually brought her full circle back to Vicksburg, where she met and married Lee Dotson, her husband of 22 years, on June 14, 2003.

She was a member of Gibson Memorial Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, and she was also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved the history of America and the Godly principles on which it was founded. In her early years, she was a hostess at the Old Court house Museum, and she could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about the Civil War.

She was a very talented artist, and always had a love for animals and music, and she was never afraid to take a chance in life to make her dreams come true.

Everything she did in her life she did it with passion, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katherine Meyer, two sisters, Katherine Van Norman and Margaret Jo Rose, one brother, Jimmy Van Norman, two sons, Bobby Ferguson, Jr. and Jess Frost, a grandson, Clint Hearn and stepson, Michael Dotson.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Doston, a daughter, Kathy Hooper (Bill), step-son, Mark Dotson (Diane), and step-daughter, Debra Stephens (James), two grandsons, Chad Hearn and Chris Ferguson, twelve great-grandchildren, Ashley Alatrorre, Austin Wann, Kristen Kendrick, Justin Hearn, Tyler Hearn, Brayden Hearn, Kyleigh Hearn, Cole Williams, and Dylan, Gavin, Nathan and Ethan Ferguson, nine great-great-grandchildren, Brennan and Aidan Alatorre, Karlee, Caroline and Kollyn Kendrick, Jackson, Anne Claire and Lily Hearn and Avery Ferguson.
