Mei Lin Frey
We mourn the passing of our cherished mother, who left us at the remarkable age of 96 on October 11, 2025. Born in Bandung, on the island of Java in Indonesia, she embarked on a journey that brought her to the United States, where she proudly became an American citizen. She first settled in Hollandale, Mississippi and later established her life in Greenville, Mississippi. She spent the last 25 years of her life living with her daughter in the Vicksburg, Mississippi area.
Throughout her many years in Greenville, she was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, joyfully sharing her love of music as a choir singer. Her faith and her vibrant spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She pursued her education at Delta State University, where her passion for languages flourished. She went on to become a dedicated foreign languages teacher, inspiring generations of students through her lessons in French and German within both the public and private school systems of Greenville.
In her younger days, she was an enthusiastic tennis player and enjoyed waterskiing on Lake Washington. She also found great joy in playing the piano and expressing her creativity through writing poems and painting, activities that brought beauty and harmony into her life and the lives of those around her, especially her grandchildren. Her zest for life extended to a lifelong love of reading and a fascination with astronomy, always encouraging those around her to seek knowledge and wonder in the world.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lin Tek Bie (Paul) and Oei Gwat Hua (Paulina) of Bandung, Indonesia, her dearest sister Sioe Ing Muir of the United Kingdom, and several other siblings.
She is survived by her two loving children – Monique Harrison (Andrew) of Edwards, Mississippi, and Christopher Frey (Leigh) of Madison, Mississippi, as well as grandchildren Jennifer Tablada (Jason) of Dahlonega, Georgia, Andrea Hutchinson (Dudley) of Grenada, Mississippi, Crystal Frey of Brandon, Mississippi, and Meagan Frey of Ridgeland, Mississippi. She was blessed to have five great-grandchildren – Ella Grace Shavers, William Tablada, JD Hutchinson, Riley Hutchinson, and Christian Tablada, all of whom will forever treasure her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering support.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregiver, Cetera, and to the compassionate Gentiva Hospice Care Team, especially Rita and Jasmine for their kindness, care, and support during these final days.
Our mother’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, dedication, and curiosity. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain forever in our hearts.
Memorial contributions in mom’s memory may be made to the Gentiva Hospice Foundation, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on October 17, 2025, at Glenwood Funeral Home, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the hour of the service. Interment will follow at County Line Community Cemetery in Glen Allan, Mississippi.
“They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings;
They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.” Isaiah 40:31
