Elizabeth “Memaw” Wells was born on October 2, 1925 in Cary, Mississippi. She left for Heaven on May 23, 2021 early in the morning. We know that she was greeted by many family members that went before her. In her last few months she always said, “Lord come on and get me!” Well, He listened, and He came on and got her. She was so ready to see Ralph, her parents, her siblings, and her son that went before her. She missed all of them so much. We absolutely know that they are having that wonderful reunion in Heaven right now.
She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She did a wonderful job with those titles. She doted on all of those that had the privilege to call her those titles. Oh, how she will be missed by so many of us! Our hope is in the here-after when we will be so fortunate to see her again.
Until the last few years, she was always cooking. Her specialty was rolls. She would make rolls for anyone and everyone. She would just give them away to family, friends, and complete strangers. She thought everyone should have something to eat. She was always up before dawn cooking. This was one of her many ways of showing her love to us. Her rolls have been eaten all over Mississippi and Northern Louisiana. They will be missed!
Her future husband, Ralph, invited her to Holiday on Ice. Two weeks later they were married. She loved to tell this story, and she loved Ralph. They only had a little over nine and half years together before the Lord called him home. She missed him for the remainder of her years here on earth. She never remarried.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Wells, her eldest son, Nathan Skipworth, her brothers: Ernest Warnock, Albert Warnock, and Willie Warnock, her sisters: Myrtree Gordon, and Helen Webster.
Elizabeth is survived by her two sons: Willie Skipworth and Marion “Chip” Wells, his wife Tammy, her youngest sister, Evelyn Sanderford, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and services will be at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Ogden Cemetery in Yazoo County.
Her pallbearers will be her grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and one special friend that was like a son. They are Nate Skipworth, Kevin Skipworth, Bryan Skipworth, Payton Cummins, Kiley Walker, Joshua Wells, and Larry Burroughs.
