Pamela Smith Dorrell

Pamela Smith Dorrell, 69, of Vicksburg, MS, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at her home. 

The family will receive extended family and friends for visitation at Hawkins United Methodist Church in Vicksburg, MS from 10:30 until 11:30 on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.  A celebration of life will follow immediately after at 11:30.

Mrs. Dorrell was born on June 29, 1956, to Bob and Joanne Smith.  She graduated from Warren Central High School.  She was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church and loved each one very much.  She served on Mission Committee, Preschool Committee and various other committees over the years.  She was a member of Covenant Seekers Sunday School, United Women of Faith.  She loved playing dominoes with her group.  Her church family has been by her side from the beginning with prayers, texts, cards, food, flowers and gifts. She was an assistant teacher with Vicksburg-Warren School District for many years.  She was involved with the Miss Mississippi Pageant, which is held in Vicksburg every year, for 15 yeas. She served as Hostess for four years, Assistant Hostess Chairman for seven years, and in 2011 Hostess Chairman for four years.  She was a wonderful loving mother and grandmother.  She adored her grandchildren, and they loved her.  She loved cooking for her family and spending time in her garden.

Mrs. Dorrell is preceded in death by her father Bob Smith and mother Joanne Smith who recently passed in June.  She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lanz Dorrell, her two sons, Criag Dorrell (Elizabeth) of Oxford, MS and Kris Dorrell (Amy) of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Semmes Dorrell, Logan Dorrell, Alyssa Dorrell and Abby Taylor; one sister, Terrie Whatley (Vance) of Florence, MS; brother-in-law Ricky Dorrell (Margie); sister-in-law, Nancy Smith (Brent) and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. James Moore of Baptist Cancer Center, Dr. Vincent E. Herrin with UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute, and the nurses of Accent Care for their wonderful care.
