Rita Faye Childres passed away on June 1, 2026, at the age of 75.
Rita was born on September 1, 1950, the daughter of James McDuff and Lillie Mae Martin McDuff. She worked at Mission Primary and later retired from Merit Health after approximately 20 years of service. She enjoyed watching games shows especially The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, The Voice and working crossword puzzles. She loved her dog Dixie and cat Sadie. She was a Christian lady and was a member of Valley Park Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother James “Coot” McDuff, Jr., sisters-in-law Betty Ann McDuff and Sue Childres; and brothers-in-law Joe Hunter and Kenny Ross.
She is survived by her husband Dennis Childres; son Michael Childres; daughter Tonia Long Trepanier; brothers Jerry McDuff, Kenneth McDuff “Brother” (Cindy) and Bob McDuff; sisters Deborah Southern (Kerry) and Linda Minchew and grandchildren Gracie Long, Graham Long, Grayson Long, Kaitlyn Trepanier, Lauren Childres, Connor Childres and Madison Hollis.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Valley Park Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Fairchild. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in Valley Park Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Graham Long, Grayson Long, Connor Childres, Brandon McDuff, Danny McCammon, and Kevin Paramore, Jr.. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaleb Britt and Cody Britt.
