Russell Wise “Mackie” McGuffee, Jr., 88, passed away on December 26, 2025, at his home in Utica, MS surrounded by his family.
“Mackie” was born in Utica on November 2, 1937, to Russell Wise McGuffee, Sr. and Ida Caroline Ferguson McGuffee. His family later moved to Jackson and then again to Drew, MS where he graduated from Drew High School. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force completing his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and specialty training at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He proudly served his country in Germany working on cargo planes as an A/C radio repairman.
Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a machinist at Stevenson-Adamson in Clarksdale, MS, and then as a police officer at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS, while attending college at Mississippi College in Clinton earning a degree in History. In 1970, he accepted a teaching position at Hinds CC in the Electrical Technology Program from which he retired after 29 years.
He met the love of his life, Gloria, in 1969, and they have been married for 56 years with one son, Russ. Mackie was a devoted grandfather to his 3 grandchildren over the years and later to his 8 great-grandchildren whom will all deeply miss him.
He was a Deacon and member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church in Utica, MS.
He is preceded in death by his father Russell Wise McGuffee, Sr., mother Ida Caroline Ferguson McGuffee, and brother Charles William “Charlie” McGuffee.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Mobley McGuffee of Utica and son William Russell “Russ” McGuffee (Michelle) of Utica. He has three grandchildren, Justin Russell McGuffee (Kristy) of Raymond, Jessica (Adam) Knight of Utica, and Kaley McGuffee of Vicksburg. He has 8 great grandchildren, Asher McGuffee, Judah Wise McGuffee, Reuben McGuffee, Ellie McGuffee, Kinsley Knight, Brinleigh Knight, Railyn Warnock, and John Tatum McCurley, sister-in-law Faye McGuffee and nephews, Mark McGuffee and Kevin McGuffee.
Pallbearers will be Justin McGuffee, Adam Knight, Mark McGuffee, Kevin McGuffee, Bo Price, Peyton McCurley, and Asher McGuffee. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Currie and the men of the Utica Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Utica Christian Church, Utica Cemetery Fund, or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Utica Christian Church, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Brother Brad Hartzog will officiate. Interment will follow in Utica Cemetery
