Sammie Laverne Alexander passed away May 28, 2021 at Merit-Health River Region Medical Center. He was 77 years old.
Sammie was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi to his parents, John Alexander and Jessie Taylor Trimble on September 23, 1943. However, he lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He was in the Army, and then worked for the Union as a craft labor supervisor. He loved to go hunting, fishing, and more recently, loved gardening. He did a lot of traveling, and was retired for 20 years.
Sammie is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, James Trimble; sisters, Jessie and Faye; and brothers, John "Buddy" and George.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rose Devlin Alexander; sons, John Alexander (Rhonda), Michael Alexander (Rebekah), and Lee Alexander (Kelsey); daughters, Kimberly Alexander and Kaila McDowell (Donald); grandchildren, John Kristopher Alexander, Austin Alexander, Chandler Alexander, Mekenzie Alexander, Taylor Alexander, and Emma Rose McDowell; and sister, Carolyn Thompson.
A visitation will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 1, 2021, with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
