Sarah "Sally" Blackley passed away on November 12, 2022, at the age of 76.
Sally was born on August 25, 1946, the oldest child of Joel and Melvina Ainsworth Hunter of Anguilla, MS. She was a graduate of Anguilla High School and of Delta State University. A retired educator, she taught ninth grade English at South Delta High School for most of her career. She began her career as a schoolteacher in Greenwood, MS, at Pillow Academy where she taught for two years before returning home to Sharkey County.
A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, she was a pianist and organist for and a former member of Anguilla United Methodist Church and Rolling Fork United Methodist Church for the last 40 years. Additionally, she provided musical services to churches throughout the area, including serving for a time at Cary United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joel A. Hunter of Rolling Fork, MS.
She is survived by her husband Bobby Blackley; sons Scott Blackley of Tupelo, MS and Brian Blackley (Brandi) of Clarksville, TN; brother Thomas Hunter of Thurmont, Maryland and granddaughters Erin Blackley of Memphis, TN and Lauren Blackley of Clarksville, TN.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Rolling Fork United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Stewart officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, at Glenwood Funeral Home of Rolling Fork, MS.
Pallbearers will be Hoyt Ainsworth, Henry Hunter, Terry Smithhart, Randy Smith, Hunter Goodman and Will Choate. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Fleeman and Frank Corban.
