Shirley Faye Leist passed from this life to her eternal home on March 12, 2025, after a courageous battle against cancer. Her well-worn Bible was by her bedside, giving testimony to her firm faith in the eternal promises of God.
Born in Yazoo City, Mississippi on June 12, 1946, she lived her life with a passion for God, family, and gardening. Small in stature but feisty in temperament, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved to cook, decorate her home, watch the hummingbirds and enjoy the beautiful roses and other flowers which she was so talented in growing.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Ivy Baxter, a sister, Joy Keyes, and a brother, William (Bill) Newsome.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dorman Leist, daughter Kim Shuttlesworth (Michael), daughter Teresa Bird (Jason), and son Dewayne Leist, as well as grandchildren Lantz Malone, Blake Malone, Sidney Clayton, Davis Clayton, Grady Clayton, Adi Love Leist, and Klein Leist; two great grandchildren, Mary Grace Malone and Nellie Malone; a sister, Marie Williams and a brother, Billy Frazier.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, March 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with a celebration of life for Shirley immediately following at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society or Bovina Baptist Church.
