Shirley Catledge Porter

April 18, 1940 – July 30, 2024

Shirley Catledge Porter passed away on Tuesday, July 30, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Rodney Earl Porter, Sr., parents Harold and Anne Catledge, sisters Peggy Hall and Linda Pickens and grandson Kolby Porter.

She left behind her son Rodney Earl Porter Jr. (Brenda), daughters Portia Porter Ashley (David) and Lisa Glenn Porter (Dean). Granddaughter Amanda Holecek (Gary Holecek), great granddaughter Ryleigh Holecek, granddaughters Alexis Nichole Dunigan and Kallie Roxanne Willingham.

Shirley and Rodney met in Port Gibson, Mississippi when she was a Secretary and he was the chief of police. Shirley called the police department pretending there was a disturbance from a motorcycle group just to meet Rodney, and it was the beginning of a beautiful 47 years of marriage.

Shirley was an amazing decorator and designer. She literally could create a flower arrangement from a tumble weed. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading and relaxing with friends and family. Her favorite past time was sitting on the back porch listening to country music while enjoying her glass of wine with Taffy Hall.

Shirley graduated from Hinds Junior College with an associate’s degree in accounting and finance. While attending college she was a member of the Hinds High Steppers which involved extensive travel including marching in New Orleans Mardi Gras. She won multiple beauty contests and was Miss Port Gibson in the Miss Mississippi Pageant.

Shirley touched many lives and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
