Steven Joseph Soverns, 62, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2025
Steve was born on January 11, 1963, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was a proud graduate of St. Aloysius High School and the Hinds Community College Surgical Technology Program. He lived in Tampa for many years before settling in Jacksonville, where he worked as a dedicated surgical technician at the Mayo Clinic. He took great pride in his work and was known for his steady presence and caring spirit.
Steve was kind-hearted, quick-witted, and had a great sense of humor. He loved to cook and entertain, always welcoming friends and family with a good meal and a warm laugh. He also enjoyed gardening and had a special fondness for animals, especially his beloved dogs, Sugga and Gibson. His generous nature and easygoing personality made him a joy to be around.
He is survived by his loving mother, Shirley B. Soverns; his brother, Sam Soverns (Lisa); his niece, Ashley Hearn (Ricky) and their children Breanna, Owen, and Colin; and his nephew, Jared Soverns (Sarah) and their children Ransom and Bridger. He is preceded in death by his father, Everett “Harold” Soverns Jr.
A memorial service to honor Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16 at Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9-11 am with a service to follow at 11:00. Interment will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to your local animal shelter or to Paws Rescue in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in honor of Steve’s love for animals.
