Tiki Shivers Obituary

Tiki Lavon Shivers, age 77, of Tallulah, Louisiana, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, after a brief illness. Tiki was born on October 11, 1943, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, to Kayley and Ida Broadway. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1962.

On December 29, 1961, she married James Earl Shivers, Jr. The two made their home in Tallulah, Louisiana, where Tiki spent the remainder of her life being a devoted wife of 58 years, an exceptional mother to her sons, Jimmy and Shannon, daughters-in-law, Angel Shivers and Laura Shivers Wilder and husband Lakey, and her “chosen” son, David Price. She was a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Amanda Shivers, Jes Shivers, Shan Shivers, Brelynn Shivers, Seth Shivers, Luke Shivers, and Laken, Hannah, and Caleb Wilder, and her three great grandchildren, Rayley Fortenberry, Chamberlynne and Currington Cutler.

Tiki was a vital, involved member of Parkview Baptist Church where she joyfully practiced a strong faith that was central to her life. She was a valued leader and enthusiastic worker throughout the years in many civic and community organizations including serving on the Tallulah Beautification Committee, the Council on Aging, as well as the Tallulah Academy/Delta Christian School Board.

Her entire professional life was also a service to others, as she was first a teacher at Wright Elementary and then an officer in Support Enforcement Services for over 30 years, where she later retired.

Until the day she was hospitalized, Tiki was the dynamic center of her family and was a dearly loved friend to so many who depended on her wisdom, wit, and generous willingness to help. All who knew and loved Tiki will keenly feel her loss, but will long remember the important part she played in their lives.

Tiki was preceded in death by her son, James Earl “Jimmy” Shivers III; her parents, Kayley and Ida Broadway; sisters, Pat Tuminello and Jackie Levitz; and brothers, Billy Broadway, Bobby Broadway, and Sam Broadway.

In addition to her immediate family members, she is survived by siblings, Joe Broadway, Geri Broadway Brown, Sonny Broadway, and Mitchel Broadway; sister-in-law, Tomette Shivers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Tiki’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at Parkview Baptist Church in Tallulah with Bro. Jason Lupo officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow at the Shivers Family Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Price, Frankie Taylor, Garrett Marsh, Chris Thornton, Jamie Shivers, and Trey Stevenson.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the outpouring of support, love, and prayers that has helped them during this difficult time.
