Velma Lee

Velma Lee, age 89 passed away peacefully on March 6, 2021 at her home in Pattison, MS. She was the daughter of Auvern and Viver Hannis and the oldest of eight children.

 She was a lifelong member of Pattison Baptist Church and enjoyed being involved in church activities. She worked 30+ years at True Value in Port Gibson, MS. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. If you knew her well, she probably cooked a meal for you, gave you a jar of jelly or shared a recipe. She truly enjoyed life and treasured the simpler things. She enjoyed feeding her birds and watching them fly around her feeders. Red birds were her absolute favorite. Her ole cat, named Cat, brought her much joy and companionship. She looked forward to her daily phone calls with friends and her afternoon coffee with her special friend of 82 years, Scrap Baker.

 She is survived by her daughter, Cindi Beesley (Val) of Port Gibson, MS; grandchildren, Brendan Beesley of Port Gibson, MS, Brianna Braswell (Christian) of Denver, CO, Nicholas Beesley of Mandeville, LA; siblings, Mattie Booker (Charlie) of Byram, MS, Charles Hannis of Edinburg, MS,  Karole Eldridge (Barnie) of Meridian, MS, Jimmy Hannis (Diane) of Pattison, MS, Steve Hannis of Pattison, MS and several nieces and nephews.

 Visitation will be Monday, March 8, 2021 at 1:00, with services starting at 2:00 at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson. Pallbearers are Brendan Beesley, Steve Hannis, Jamie Hannis, Mike Hannis, Barnie Eldridge and Tim Eldridge.

 Special thanks to her doctor, David Headley and all others who touched our hearts with special care for her at Claiborne County Hospital and Claiborne County Senior Care.
