Walter was born on March 15, 1950 in Pascagoula, MS. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on June 28, 2025.
He was the son of Betty Sinquefield Hallberg and Walter Brehm Hallberg Jr.
Walter graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1968 where he was a stand out baseball player. He was drafted out of high school and went on to play with the Cleveland Indians for three summers before returning to Pascagoula in 1970. Walter and his family then moved to Vicksburg in 1971 where his family owned and operated Waggeners Auto Parts for 30 years.
Walter married the love of his life, Mary Hill Hallberg and they shared a life together for 54 years.
Walter’s passions were his family, friends and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren; who were the light of his life. Walter was a mentor to many; and traveled many miles to support young athletes in their journey. Walter was devoted to his faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg for over 50 years.
Always striving to be better, and live better; Walter completed the New Orleans and Chicago Marathons in his 50’s. When he set his mind to something, he achieved it with inspiring humbleness.
Walter is proceeded in Death by his parents; Betty Sinquefield Hallberg and Walter Brehm Hallberg, Jr and brother, Mark Harlan Hallberg, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Hill Hallberg and beloved sister, Ava Hallberg Duncan (Jerry), his sons Walter Brehm Hallberg IV (Laura) and Eric Alan Hallberg (Cappe) and his daughter, Melanie Hallberg Field (Trey); Grandchildren; Joshua Caleb Hallberg, Jessie Ryan Hallberg, Cyrus Brehm Hallberg, Nicholas Anthony Hallberg, Harrison Hill Hallberg, Jane Reynolds Field, William Floyd Field IV, Mary “May” Virginia Field, Laken Gage Bradley, Keller Jake Bradley, and Blaney Kate Bradley.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Justin Baker for treating our dad like family for 10 years. Dr Baker became a friend to him like everyone Dad came in contact with. We would also like to express gratitude to Enhabit Home Health and Hospice; Melanie Tillery, Shannon Wince and Yvonne Dee.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Vicksburg, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with funeral services following at 11:00 A.M.at the church with Rev. Jimmy Henry officiating. A private family graveside will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons whom he treasured so dearly Joshua Caleb Hallberg, Jessie Ryan Hallberg, Cyrus Brehm Hallberg, Nicholas Anthony Hallberg, Harrison Hill Hallberg, William Floyd Field IV, Laken Gage Bradley, and Keller Jake Bradley.
