Phillip Wayne Acuff passed away July 5, 2024, peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 77 years old.
Wayne was born on October 20, 1946, in Vicksburg, MS to Lorine Smith Acuff and Hugh Fairman Acuff, Sr.
Wayne worked as a machinist for several different railroad companies in Vicksburg. He was known as "PW" to everyone he worked with. He had a vast knowledge of machinery and could fix anything. He retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad in 2009 after 45 years.
Wayne loved traveling with his wife, and he loved to be outdoors. Whether it was working in the yard, hunting, fishing, swimming with his grandkids or working on a project. He was always willing to go out of his way to fix things for others. He would help anyone at any time. He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Hugh Fairman Acuff, Jr.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Doris Faye Hall Acuff, his daughter Holly Neihaus (Jake), his son Jason Acuff (Tiffany), his grandchildren Will Neihaus (Sena), Ashton Benton (Hunter), Colten Neihaus, Gabriel Acuff, Harley Acuff, his great-grandchildren Letty Ruth Neihaus, Lucy Magnolia Neihaus, Bodie Kyle Benton and one sister Marie Ellison (Dave).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Glenwood Funeral Home. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Lambeth Woodward and Rev. Mike Fields. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Will Neihaus, Colten Neihaus, Hunter Benton, Jimmy Hall, Michael Hall, Joel Hall, Rob Ellison and Jeff Ellison. Honorary pallbearers will be Gabriel Acuff, Trey Acuff, David Ward, Carl Terry Hudson and Michael Hudson.
The family would like to thank the UMMC MICU nursing staff for their exceptional care over the last few weeks. We are also extremely thankful for Dr. Andrew Wilhelm and his staff at the UMMC Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care for the care he has provided over the last ten years.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that food donations be made to the Triumph Church Food Pantry.
