William Edward Ashley, 64, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away on January 23, 2026. He was born on October 28, 1961, and was truly one of a kind.
After the formalities, everyone knew him simply as Bubba.
Bubba was married to the love of his life, Judy Ashley, for 40 years. Together they built a life filled with laughter, stories, and unwavering devotion. He was a proud Daddy to his only child,
Mary Lauren Ashley (DeRossette), and an adoring Pawp to his grandchildren, Madison, Brooklyn, and Miller, who were the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and William Madison Ashley; his infant brother, William Calvin Ashley; and his siblings, Virginia Ashley Curtis, Inez Ashley Elwart, Betty Lou Ashley Winstead, and Billie Ashley DiTucci.
Bubba proudly served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class (AD3). He served aboard the USS Midway and with Helicopter Combat Support
Squadron Eleven, deploying to the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions. His dedication, technical skill, and strong work ethic earned him formal letters of commendation and
appreciation for superior performance and mission readiness. Bubba was honorably discharged in May of 1986, reflecting his honest and faithful service.
Following his military service, Bubba worked as a skilled carpenter, a trade that matched his hands-on nature, attention to detail, and pride in a job done right.
Effortlessly funny, Bubba made people laugh without even trying. His humor was constant and uniquely his own. He loved cooking, spending time with his wife, and reminiscing with his
daughter and grandchildren about the years he spent living in Asia during his Navy service. His stories — especially about the places he traveled and the wild foods he tried — will be cherished and retold for generations.
Above all else, Bubba was a husband, Daddy, and Pawp who loved fiercely and deeply. He will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his hardworking hands, and the love he
poured into his family. Though he will be profoundly missed, his spirit lives on in every shared laugh, memory, and story told around the table.
